NHS Lung Health Checks are now available to eligible patients in Bracknell as part of a major drive to improve early diagnosis of lung cancer and save lives.
This important screening programme, which has already seen success across the Frimley area, will begin scanning at Blackbushe Airport from 11-16 October, 2025. The programme will first support patients in the south of the area who are registered with The Ringmead Medical Group, including the Crowthorne, Yorktown Road, and Owlsmoor branches. Invitations started to go out from the week beginning 22 September.
The Lung Health Checks are available to people aged 55 to 74 who smoke or have ever smoked and are registered with a GP. They involve a simple assessment and, if necessary, a low-dose CT scan to spot signs of lung disease, including cancer, at the earliest and most treatable stage.
Success of the programme so far in Frimley:
- 25,438 invitations sent
- 13,861 Lung Health Checks carried out
- 6,187 initial CT scans performed
- 86 lung cancers diagnosed – 80.2% at an early stage
Diagnosing lung cancer early significantly improves survival rates, which is why the NHS is prioritising targeted screening for those most at risk.
Lung cancer is often symptomless until it’s advanced, so early detection through these checks is vital. The success already seen in the Frimley area shows how many lives this programme can save. We’re proud to now bring this service to Bracknell and encourage everyone invited to take up the offer.
Patients eligible for a lung health check will receive an invitation letter with further details. You do not need to contact your GP to book into the NHS Lung Cancer Screening Programme. Appointments are quick, straightforward, and could be lifesaving.
